DO YOU NEED END OF LIFE PAPER WORK?
Usually when we think of End of Life Paperwork, we tend to think of a Last Will and Testament to direct the distribution of our assets when we die.
Will.
When a person dies without a Will, state laws will usually determine how the assets of a deceased person are distributed to the heir or heirs and can affect guardianship of minor children. It can also address a number of other concerns.
Other items of paperwork we may want to consider along with a Last Will & Testament are Health Care Directives and a Power Of Attorney.
Health Care Directives.
With the positive advances in modern health care that we have seen in the last few years people are surviving many illnesses and diseases that 20 or 30 years ago would have been fatal.
Some may not consider this to be a good thing, especially when a bed ridden person is kept alive on a ventilator and or feeding tube with no realistic hope of any quality of life.
Health Care Directives can address what treatment you wish to have in the event you are in critical condition or incapacitated and are no longer able to make an informed decision for yourself.
Power of Attorney.
A Power of Attorney can address a number of situations including the power to make decisions concerning another's health care in the event they are incapacitated or it could be over part or all of a persons personal or business interests.
